Soma Structural Integration

Soma Structural Integration is performed in a series of 10 to 11 sessions. Each session is designed to work the body in layers. This series will balance your body segment by segment with each session building upon the last.  The focus of Soma is on fascia and myofascia.  Fascia is a protective layer of connective tissue that is found throughout the entire body.  It surrounds each muscle and muscle fiber, organs, nerves, bone…etc. Fascia gives our muscles and bodies their shape.  It’s our organ of form.

 

Session 1~
Focus: Free the tissue around the rib cage and lengthen the lower back.
Result: Feeling of lightness and wellbeing, a more upright posture and fuller, deeper breathing.
Session 2~
Focus: The body’s foundation, lower leg and feet.
Result: Feeling of being firmly grounded and in touch with reality.

Session 3~
Focus: Lengthening the sides of the body and free the shoulder.
Result: Expanded breathing, greater relaxation and more immediately available energy.

Session 4,5,& 6~
Focus: Adjusts and lengthens the body’s vertical center line, or core.
Result: Better balance and freedom of movement. Walking takes a fraction of the energy typically expended.

Session 7~
Focus: Release the muscles of the neck, face and head.
Result: A more softened, relaxed appearance in the face, increased self-reliance and personal power.

Session 8,9 & 10~
Focus: integrate the whole body in a new and more efficient manner.
Result: Less stress and more energy as the body’s structure is better aligned with gravity.

Arm Session (optional)~
Focus: The arms, the movement of energy through the arms and down the back.
Result: Increased rotary function. Energy moving through the elbows, scapula to sacrum. Arms swing relaxed.
