Soma and Structural Integration - Frequently Asked Questions

1.Why would I do SOMA over massage?
Lasting results! All touch therapies with an intent to heal does wonders for the body. Massage is extremely helpful with relaxation and injury treatment. So why does the pain come back? The answer may be that massage does not seek to reveal the root cause of the origin of pain. Some pain and fatigue may be a result of poor posture, emotional stress, or compensations your body took on as a result of an injury past or present. SOMA works the body totality, the holistic approach to treatment. SOMA provides long term changes to the body by changing the structure of the body through the fascia. Our intent and method is different than massage and the results also differ greatly. Only by viewing the body as a whole, can lasting change be made to the structure of the body.

2. Do I have to complete the entire series?
No. Once you begin, and you determine SOMA is not for you, you may choose not to continue. There is no commitment even after session 1. I ask that you at least try up until session 3, then at this time you may make your decision. Beyond session 3 a commitment has to be made until session 7. Sessions can be done anywhere from once a week to once a month, with the exception of sessions 4,5,6 &7 where I ask that no more than 2 weeks pass between each.

3. Do you offer just single session massage?
Yes, Somassage is a single session deep tissue massage. Somassage can be anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes. Somassage is not Structural Integration. See the sessions tab for more indepth information.

Treatment work is also available based on 15 minute intervals.

4. What other modalities are complementary to SOMA?
SOMA is complementary and compatible to Chiropractic, Yoga, Pilates, and life counseling. SOMA supports the changes of chiropractic manipulations by aligning and balancing the muscle structure through fascia manipulation. Also, SOMA enhances the body-mind connection, and would support the neurological changes that come with a properly aligned spine. SOMA affects the psychosomatic conditioning the body/mind develops, and along with the psychological improvements and growth obtained through life and mental health counseling, the combining of the two can be dynamic.  Clients who are having little further progress often find that SOMA offers additional positive changes in their bodies and their lives.

5. Do you accept insurance?
I am a LMP and SOMA is billed as massage. I accept L&I, PIP, cash, credit cards, and checks. I can also provide a receipt for you to submit to your health  insurance company for reimbursement. Please call your insurance company first to be sure they will reimburse this way first. Don't assume they will....
Payment plans are also an option.
